‘KEEP THE SCHEME CLEAN’ PROJECT LAUNCHES

Monday 9th August, 2021

Glasgow, Scotland - SISCO partners with Marriott Communications in order to launch a community clean up project - ‘Keep the Scheme Clean.’

‘Keep the Scheme Clean’ is a community-focussed event aiming to challenge the prejudices associated with addiction and prison experiences, whilst at the same time bringing a community together to make positive changes to the local area, and forging new friendships and partnerships.

This particular area of Glasgow is often overlooked, but at the heart of Possilpark is a community whose spirit never wanes, and is filled with people who are proud of where they live, and come from. It was with this in mind that we decided to pay back a community that has always been so supportive of us, and our partner organisations, and as a collective we knew that we had the power to make a positive difference.

In order to have brought this event to such a success that it was, SISCO and Marriott Communications partnered with: Thriving Places, Young Peoples Futures, the VRU, Clay Community Church, Arts Yard, Hamiltonhill Claypits Local Nature Reserve, Glasgow North East police, NG Homes, Canal Youth Forum, Possilpark Peoples Trust, Possilpark baby food bank, and Concrete Gardens.

On the day of the clean up, over 40 volunteers joined in on a variety of tasks, from litter picking to large waste removal, to handing out infant care packages and positively engaging with the local community. Saracens Street became a sea of hi-vis vests as the volunteers worked their way towards Saracens Cross, filling over 40 black bags with waste and litter!

The Possilpark community described the clean up project as a “much needed” and “much valued” initiative for the local area, and that it was pleasing to see a group of people coming together to make some positive changes.
