MC To Co-Host King Of Hearts Charity Fundraiser

Marriott Communications and Aura Fine Art Gallery Newcastle are set to host the ‘King of Hearts’ charity fundraiser to highlight and celebrate the work of artist, King, and raise funds for Rainbow Migration, Crisis, and Freedom From Torture.

King, a LGBTQIA+ refugee fled her homeland to avoid persecution and has since been living in the UK where she has been supported by Rainbow Migration, Crisis, and Freedom From Torture.

Aura Fine Art, based in Newcastle’s iconic Fenwick’s, will be hosting a charity fundraiser on Saturday 10th February (4-7 pm) to celebrate the artistic work of King who has found freedom in artistic expression since escaping persecution.

Artist, King, said: 

“Having suffered greatly from persecution and violent acts which resulted in severe mental trauma. I had begun to give up on life until I was rescued by these 3 unbelievable Charities, who for the first time that I could remember really reached out to me and helped me on the difficult road to rebuild my life . For the first time I have begun to express myself through my paintings and my poem which I hope will raise some funds for these very deserving Charities.”

Emma May, Crisis Engagement and Assessment Worker said: 

"When I first met King in November 2022, she found it hard to trust people and didn’t feel like she had a voice. Thankfully, she trusted me enough to share the difficulties she had faced which brought her to the UK. 

I don’t think King realises what she has taught others, we can learn a lot about the strength, dignity, and determination she shows. She wants to show her appreciation for the support she has had from organisations, when in fact, I think we need to show our appreciation for how hard she has worked to overcome her plight.

King has used her creative side, through art, poetry and writing to explain to others what she has experienced and how she is working towards a life free from persecution and fear to one filled with love and light. Everything she produces is like magic and it has been a pleasure and privilege to work with her. I am so proud of what she has achieved, and this is just the start!”

During the charity fundraiser there will be the opportunity to view a curated selection of King’s work, as well as a collection of love-themed pieces from Aura’s portfolio of accomplished national and international artists. 

The event will also host a sealed bid auction, where bidders will have the chance to acquire one of King’s original artworks.
